In “Systemic Issues Need Not Apply: One Artist’s Journey of Existing in the Margins,” featured in the Canadian Theatre Review, Raechele Lovell shares her personal narrative as a biracial Afro-descendant settler born in 1989 on Turtle Island. She delves into her experiences growing up in poverty within a family marked by generational trauma, offering a profound exploration of life on society’s periphery.

Frustrated by barriers facing marginalized artists, Raechele Lovell founded DiverseWorks Dance Co. to create a more inclusive and equitable space for dancers in Waterloo Region. Through initiatives like the paid Emergent apprenticeship program, the company is helping the next generation of diverse artists build confidence, skills, and professional opportunities.
